The Castle Sports Club and Peoria SportsPlex try hard each season to maintain balance in our leagues.  A competitive yet balanced league creates a fun league for players of all skill levels.  I would like to take a moment and clarify the philosophy we follow to maintain balance in our leagues.

The "move up", "break up" or "move out" philosophy is the idea if your team wins multiple championships in a league the team should move up a skill level or individual players on the team should move up to the next available level.  If the next available level is not a practical solution we may ask a player to change teams "break up".  In rare cases when a team refuses to help us balance the league a team may "move out" completely.

When games are close, tied or go into overtime we are happy and the leagues are balanced.  Please help us in supporting our "good for business" philosophy of balanced leagues.  Also remember that as hard as we try to maintain balance in our leagues some players try harder to unbalance the leagues.  Once a league starts it takes 3-6 months to rebalance that league. This philosophy has served us well to create the best hockey leagues in all of Arizona for over a decade.

Two More Classic Games Completed on Monday

In a major upset in the 35B League the Generals (a 3 goal underdog in Las Vegas) turned the tables on the #1 seeded Rangers and won a game closer than the final score of 4-1.  Jimmie Lee was named defensive star of the game by the writers in attendance.  Congratulations to all of the teams that participate and make this one of our most fun leagues at the Castle.  The new season starts Monday November 30th.

The Jets and Red Army battled to another 1 goal championship game at the Castle.  The Red Army, already an upset winner in the semi finals gave the Jets all they could handle before losing 5-4 on late goal by the Jets.  This now makes 4 in a row for the Jets.  Congratulations to all the teams and the Jets for a great season.

TrophyOn March 2nd the Sunday Brass and Sunday Silver Leagues both played their Championship Games.  The Sunday Brass League featured the Rhinos against the Spartans.  The Spartans took the Rhinos all the way to overtime before losing 6-5 in the overtime period.  The Silver League would see the identical score in overtime.  The Ironmen played an upstart Excalibur team that battled into the finals after coming from behind 4-1 against the Buffaloes.  The game would seesaw back and forth and finish in a 5-5 tie before going to overtime.  The Ironmen scored just 6 seconds into overtime to recapture their place atop the league.
