Over 40 and Over 45 Championships
Thursday, November 17, 2011 4:03:57 PM
The Over 45 champions for the Fall 2011 season are the Rangers. The Rangers missing league leading scorer Andy Miska and defensive specialist Jimmie Lee had to rely on the remaining players to clinch the title. Andy Short lead all goal scorers in the game with 5 goals and Scott Kidd had a hat trick to lead the Rangers to the championship. The defense was lead by Mark Donnelly and Dale Downing with Keith Caylor stopping 18 shots on goal. Congratulations to the Maple Leafs who put up a battle in the final game and all the teams that participated throughout the season. The Over 40 league champions for the Fall 2011 league are the Canadiens. The Canadiens were lead by a balanced attack with 4 different players scoring a goal and a solid goaltending performance by Mike Kramer. Kramer kept the Blues off the scoresheet until the 13 minute mark when the Blues notched their first goal. In all, Kramer stopped 12 of 16 shots. League leading scorer Randy Exelby continued his scoring ways leading the game with 4 points. Brian Langlot also contributed 4 points for the Canadiens in what could be called an upset win. The Blues were undefeated heading into the championship game lead by Jeff Pevehouse's league leading 89% save percentage. Congratulations to all the teams in the Over 40 league.

League Parity Philosophy
Friday, September 03, 2010 11:33:19 AM
The Castle Sports Club trys hard each season to maintain balance in our leagues. A competitive yet balanced league creates a good fun league for players of all skill levels. I would like to take a moment and clarify the philosophy we follow to maintain balance in our leagues. The "move up", "break up" or "move out" philosophy is the idea if your team wins multiple championships in a league the team should move up a skill level or individual players on the team should move up to the next available level. If the next available level is not a practical solution we may ask a player to change teams "break up". In rare cases when a team refuses to help us balance the league a team may "move out" completely. When games are close, tied or go into overtime we are happy and the leagues are balanced. Please help us in supporting our "good for business" philosophy of balanced leagues. Also remember that as hard as we try to maintain balance in our leagues some players try harder to unbalance the leagues. Once a league starts it takes 3-6 months to rebalance that league. This philosophy has served us well to create the best hockey leagues in all of Arizona for over a decade.

The Musketeers continued their Cinderella story with a second upset enroute to the Bronze League Championship 6-4 over the Starburst. Congratulations to both teams and good luck to the champions who will move up to the new Silver League for the Fall season. The Gold League ended with a 10-10 tie before going to a shootout. The Dragon Minor team won the shootout to claim victory in the Gold League.
