League Parity update
Saturday, December 21, 2013 7:32:49 AM

The Castle Sports Club and Peoria SportsPlex try hard each season to maintain balance in our leagues.  A competitive yet balanced league creates a fun league for players of all skill levels.  I would like to take a moment and clarify the philosophy we follow to maintain balance in our leagues.

The "move up", "break up" or "move out" philosophy is the idea if your team wins multiple championships in a league the team should move up a skill level or individual players on the team should move up to the next available level.  If the next available level is not a practical solution we may ask a player to change teams "break up".  In rare cases when a team refuses to help us balance the league a team may "move out" completely.

When games are close, tied or go into overtime we are happy and the leagues are balanced.  Please help us in supporting our "good for business" philosophy of balanced leagues.  Also remember that as hard as we try to maintain balance in our leagues some players try harder to unbalance the leagues.  Once a league starts it takes 3-6 months to rebalance that league. This philosophy has served us well to create the best hockey leagues in all of Arizona for over a decade.

Over 40 and Over 45 Championships
Thursday, November 17, 2011 4:03:57 PM

The Over 45 champions for the Fall 2011 season are the Rangers.  The Rangers missing league leading scorer Andy Miska and defensive specialist Jimmie Lee had to rely on the remaining players to clinch the title.  Andy Short lead all goal scorers in the game with 5 goals and Scott Kidd had a hat trick to lead the Rangers to the championship.  The defense was lead by Mark Donnelly and Dale Downing with Keith Caylor stopping 18 shots on goal.  Congratulations to the Maple Leafs who put up a battle in the final game and all the teams that participated throughout the season.

The Over 40 league champions for the Fall 2011 league are the Canadiens. The Canadiens were lead by a balanced attack with 4 different players scoring a goal and a solid goaltending performance by Mike Kramer. Kramer kept the Blues off the scoresheet until the 13 minute mark when the Blues notched their first goal.  In all, Kramer stopped 12 of 16 shots. League leading scorer Randy Exelby continued his scoring ways leading the game with 4 points.  Brian Langlot also contributed 4 points for the Canadiens in what could be called an upset win.  The Blues were undefeated heading into the championship game lead by Jeff Pevehouse's league leading 89% save percentage.  Congratulations to all the teams in the Over 40 league.

Jamie Marmorstein who drank the fountain of youth water from Amy's water bottle was the 3rd star of the game.  Congratulations to all the players from both teams for a good game.

Congratulations to Kevin Drummond who lead the league in scoring with 33 points...Kevin will now be required to move up from copper and play in the next highest league.

Monday Championship Games Thrill the Crowd
Tuesday, November 24, 2009 6:19:14 PM

Two More Classic Games Completed on Monday

In a major upset in the 35B League the Generals (a 3 goal underdog in Las Vegas) turned the tables on the #1 seeded Rangers and won a game closer than the final score of 4-1.  Jimmie Lee was named defensive star of the game by the writers in attendance.  Congratulations to all of the teams that participate and make this one of our most fun leagues at the Castle.  The new season starts Monday November 30th.

The Jets and Red Army battled to another 1 goal championship game at the Castle.  The Red Army, already an upset winner in the semi finals gave the Jets all they could handle before losing 5-4 on late goal by the Jets.  This now makes 4 in a row for the Jets.  Congratulations to all the teams and the Jets for a great season.

Sunday Fall League Championships
Monday, November 23, 2009 9:29:55 AM

Sunday League Championships

The Sunday Brass League and Sunday Gold League completed their Championships in dramatic fashion on Sunday November 22nd.  In the Brass division the #3 seed Black Knights trailed the entire game until 2:14 left when they took their first lead and never gave it up.  The 4th seeded 59ners proved pesky the entire game but fell short in the 1 goal contest.  Congratulations to both teams for an exciting game.

The Sunday Gold League is our top skill level league and would prove to be a battle all night.  Power play goals would be the determining factor in this game.  After playing 43 minutes of hockey tied at 2-2 the Dragons took a penalty that proved costly.  With 18 second left in the contest the Buffaloas scored a power play goal that sealed the deal.  Congratulations to both teams who provided fans with a thrilling contest.

Tin Can Championship
Monday, November 24, 2008 7:52:21 AM

Tin Championship goes to Ghosthunters

The Ghosthunters scored the game winning goal with only seconds on the clock to steal a victory from the Sparrs team to advance to the Championship.  The HazzMatts had to also score in the final seconds to advance to the championship game.  The Ghosthunters would have to play short in the championship game after Kelly G went down with an injury and was escorted to the hospital by 2 other Ghosthunters.  The 4 remaining Ghosthunters would hang on to defeat the HazzMatts in a close exciting game that would see the Hunters win their first ever Tin Championship.

Congratulations to all the players in this league who participate for the love of the game and enjoyment of the sport.  All the players in the Tin Can league are true Champions.
